In our chapel service at Canadian Motorsport Park this past weekend, we talked about how to pray like Jesus! In order to know how to pray like Jesus, we need to see how Jesus prayed and look at what he prayed about.

The 17th chapter of John reveals many things about God. I would encourage you to read this prayer from Christ’s heart ( Pay close attention to what Jesus is asking and who he is asking it for.

At this moment of prayer, Jesus knew what was in store. He knew that he was about to be crucified. He knew his mission here was drawing to an end. Yet it is interesting what was on his mind as that day approached. He was not busy with running around trying to get everyone to believe in him. He was not trying to baptize everyone he came in contact with. He was not healing the sick or giving sight to the blind. No. It was prayer. It was not any prayer, but this prayer revealed the very heart of Jesus. It revealed his true love and convictions. It revealed his true desires. A look at a couple verses speaks volumes to us….

John 7:20 – My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message. –  What a statement! In the context of this verse, he is talking about us! He said he prays for those who believe in him. If you are a believer today, Jesus is praying for you! What an honor to have the Savior of the world praying for you!

John 7:24 – Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. – “I want those you have given me to be with me”. Jesus wants you. Jesus wants fellowship with you. Jesus wants to spend eternity with you!

Who did Jesus pray for? – You.

What did Jesus pray about?

People – to know God.

Joy – within believers hearts based on their eternal destiny.

Unity – just as God and Christ are one.

Protection – from the evil one.

Sanctification –  to become more like Christ.

Salvation – that all would come to know Him

Love – that others would see the love of Christ in us.

Pray like Jesus…
