We search, seek, shop and compare for the best deals to complete the transaction for just the right gift for just the right person. In our hustle and bustle we can quickly lose sight of why we even celebrate Christmas.

In the Old Testament, the prophet Isaiah predicted the coming of the Messiah saying, “His name shall be called Emmanuel”. This prophecy would come to fruition some 700 years later just as Isaiah had foretold. This name “Emmanuel” means “God with us or God dwelling among us”. The Deity God in human form was to be sent; not to condemn the world, but to save the world.

Jesus was sent as the ultimate mediator between Father God and man. The Savior was sent to take on our burdens, take on our sins, and provide a path to God the Father. He was sent as God incarnate, or “God in bodily form”. And His name shall be Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace for all of eternity.

This is why we celebrate Christmas. For the ultimate gift that was given to us through the birth of Jesus Christ followed by His death, burial and resurrection. The great joy we find at Christmas is not sold in a store or ordered online. The great joy is knowing this Jesus who came. The One who gives everlasting life. His name shall be…

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel.

“She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL,” which translated means, “GOD WITH US.”
